Our thoughts on 2023 rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

College Career Stats:

"He is probably to small to be true every down back." - Darryl

Measurables:

  • 5’9

  • 199 lbs

  • 29.98 BMI

  • 4.36 40 97th percentile

  • 33' 6" Vertical Jump

  • 110 Speed Score

  • 93% college target share

Strengths:

  • Gibbs was a multisport athlete who played some wide receiver in high school.

  • During high school, he only had one fumble in 3 years, none in 530 total touches.

  • When Jahmyr Gibbs transferred to Alabama, he had PFF's highest receiving grade, 91.5.

  • Gibbs can avoid the big hits as PFF gave him a 99.1 elusiveness rating in college.

  • He displays the ability to wait for the hole to open before making his move.

  • In 2022 Gibbs had the most forced tackles on receptions (18), by a running back.

  • On one particular 70+ yard run, he hit a top speed of 22 mph.

Weaknesses:

  • His size measurements are a big red flag. Only three running backs under 210 pounds finished as a top 20 running back last season.

  • Due to his size, there is a fear he will only be seen as a change-of-pace running back.

  • Jahmyr Gibbs's college yardage and touchdowns are below what you expect for a top running back prospect.

  • Occasionally, he might bounce runs to the outside a little too much.

Scouting Report

Jahmyr Gibbs has become one of the top-drafted rookie running backs this offseason. His high 2023 NFL Draft capital and the departure of D'Andre Swift have led people to believe Gibbs will be a fantasy darling. The safe bet is that Gibbs will take over the Swift role, and David Montgomery will take the high-value touches at the goal line. The size comparison between these two almost guarantees this outcome. With Jahmry Gibbs, you will likely hope for a boom week amongst the busts. It also doesn't help that his best comparable player is C.J. Spiller.
