Our reflections on rookie D'Wayne Eskridge from 2021.
Wide receiver D’Wayne Eskridge, 5’9, maybe, 190 pounds out of Western Michigan. Eskridge was drafted in the second round by the Seattle Seahawks. D’Wayne is certainly fast and showed off his speed with a 4.38 forty-yard dash. He finished 2020 with 784 yards, 8 touchdowns, and averaged 23.1 yards per catch on 34 receptions, with 76.5 of his receptions going for first downs or touchdowns. D’Wayne Eskridge was a high school track star and looked quicker than basically everyone on the field.
"The Seahawks are loading up with track star wide receivers but want to run the ball more."
Eskridge displays quick feet at the line of scrimmage, using his feet to confuse defenders and set up his cuts. He averaged 27.5 yards per return in 2020 and one touchdown. His return abilities will get him some more looks from the coaching staff.
He lacks ideal size being just shy of five-nine, and he enters the league at 24. Unfortunately, you see, the super-fast guys with crazy speed end up needing some work. They've been relying on their speed and quickness their whole career, and they need to get out there and work on their routes.
Scouting Report
His main role on the Seattle offense may be as a kick returner, but he should get starter reps as the number three wide receiver. One of the main concerns every year is that the team seems to slow down towards the end of the season, and every year they talk about running more all the time. D’Wayne Eskridge could be an asset if you play the best ball. Stash him on your taxi squad for now.
