A football player in orange sprints on a rainy field, pursued by two players in white. "BEAVS" and number 6 are visible.

Our perspective on 2021 rookie Jermar Jefferson.

Jermar Jefferson, running back out of Oregon State, 5’9, 217 pounds, and ran an unofficial 4.55 forty, a 7.38 three-cone, a 31 inch vertical, and 13 bench reps; so not really outstanding on his Pro Day.

"The best of what is left in your rookie drafts."

Jefferson has an excellent one-step cut and gets skinny through holes by changing his body angle. He isn’t afraid to take on contact while arm tackles will not take him down now. He did, however, get taken down by the first actual tackle often. Jermar has some quickness and some lateral speed to bounce the ball outside.

Jermar Jefferson looked okay catching the ball, but his receptions dropped off, and it is unclear why. He had a few nice catches down the field that are highlight reel types of catches but had nine catches the last two years. He put the ball on the ground a little too much and looked like he was just loose with the ball and lost the ball. Jefferson seems too eager to bounce outside because he has the ability, and he didn't wait for the hole to open up; he would immediately go to the outside.

His overall game endurance might be an issue as he slowed down as games went on, which could be related to his mediocre athletic profile. We’ve seen guys much smaller put up more bench reps. He battled some foot and ankle injuries throughout college.

Scouting Report

Maybe to a running back to be targeting, but at a point, he will be part of all that's left or the best that's left, and that will be okay. About running back four, there's a cliff, and then you just kind of pick and pray in your drafts. He’s not going to cost you much in a rookie draft as a third or fourth-round guy. In a recent startup, he went in the 14th at pick seven.
