Our perspective on Kylin Hill, the 2021 rookie.

Kylin Hill, 5’10” 214 lbs, out of Mississippi State. Hill’s lateral quickness and shiftiness really stand out in-game footage. He is a natural receiver of the football out of the backfield and a good route runner. He has a forward lean when he runs that really helps him get through congestion, and when he meets defenders, he keeps his legs going for extra yards. Kylin only had one career fumble in college, and that was his freshman season. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry in the notoriously tough SEC.

"Kylin is a tough runner with shifty feet."

To start with the bad, he seems to seek contact but lacks the power to run over guys or push piles. He doesn’t possess great long speed to outrun defenders after hitting the second level. Hill’s Pass Pro also needs work, as he fails to engage pass rushers and instead tries to spear them by lowering his head. There are also some maturity questions: he reportedly butted heads with the new coaching staff his senior year, which led to a suspension.

Scouting Report

Kylin is a tough runner with the shifty feet to get himself out of trouble. He produced in 3 different offensive schemes at Mississippi State, showing that he has a lot of versatility as a back. Unfortunately, his aforementioned suspension during his senior season led to him opting out after only 3 games. Overall, we think Green Bay got a steal in Hill, and his pass-catching ability and play style reminds us of another recent Packers’ running back, Jamaal Williams.
