Our thoughts on 2022 NFL rookie Running Back, Pierre Strong.

Measurables:

  • 5'11" 207 lbs

  • 4.37 40-yard dash (99th percentile)

  • 36" Verticle jump

  • 10'4" Broad jump

  • 95th percentile speed score

  • 92nd percentile yards per carry

"One fumble is to many for the Patriots."

Strengths:

  • He keeps his feet under him between the tackles and sets up moves by putting his foot in the ground to cut away from tacklers.

  • He displays impressive vision and has a natural feel for seeing rushing lanes develop and then presses the whole to draw in defenders before cutting back or to the outside.

  • Strong has excellent speed on outside zone runs, helping him break off big plays.

  • He is a capable receiver out of the backfield with reliable hands.

  • Strong went 9-for-9 and 208 yards with six touchdowns as a passer in college to add to his10 career 50-plus yard touchdowns.

Weaknesses:

  • He is a bit undersized, and we don't see much growth potential.

  • Strong has average power and could stand to add some toughness at the end of his runs.

  • His balance is inconsistent at the point of contact, which hinders his ability to break tackles.

  • When he breaks into the open field, he is not super elusive and can look stiff sometimes.

  • Let's hope he doesn't have a fumbling problem, as he fumbled five times last season.

  • Most of his production came versus FCS-level competition.

Scouting Report

Just what we needed, another running back in New England. Pierre Strong would have likely been a more popular name if he had landed in almost any other spot. The best and worst part about him being drafted by the Patriots is that he is one fumble away from starting but also just one from never seeing the field again. Bill Belichick knows what his players are good at, but we won't know what he thinks of Strong until it is too late. At his current ADP, he is very low risk with the potential to provide a good return on your investment.
