Our thoughts on 2022 NFL rookie running back, Tyrion Davis-Price.

Measurables:

  • 6'0" 211 lbs.

  • 4.48 forty-yard dash

  • 30” Vertical Jump @ combine; 35.5" Vert @ Pro Day

"Davis-Price can be part of an NFL rotation for several years at the NFL-level."

Strengths:

  • Big frame & well-proportioned build

  • Drops pads effectively between the tackles and absorbs hits

  • Run balance and power help him to pick up yards post-contact

  • Above average open-field speed for his size

  • One of the most consistent pass blockers in this class

  • Most productive runs came in the second half of games

  • At his best late in the season; averaged 123.3 YPG last 7 in ‘21

  • Looks game fast w/ a 90th-percentile speed score

  • Nice stiff leg cut, gets north-south fast

  • Proven durability and plenty of tread on the tires

Weaknesses:

  • Quick but not explosive, especially when trying to bounce outside

  • Needs work on pacing and knowing where his blockers are

  • Too much contact inside, sometimes with his own blockers

  • Scored a TD in only 3 of 12 games in ‘21

  • 3 fumbles on 221 touches in ‘21

  • Averaged less than 5 YPC all 3 college seasons

  • Not a proven pass-catcher

  • No special teams experience

  • Not sure he can be a short yardage/goal line. Gets held up at times.

  • All of his 2021 TDs were in 3 weeks.

  • His 4.8 YPC average is deceptive. Would be 3.7 if not for a few big games.

Scouting Report

Looks like a good fit for the 49ers. Overall, Davis-Price isn't going to do anything flashy, but he's a physical, downhill runner who breaks tackles late in games and does an above-average job in pass protection. He has the ability to be part of a rotation for several years at the NFL-level.
