Our thoughts on 2022 NFL rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder.
Measurables:
6'3" 211 lbs
22.66 years old
4.52 40-yd, 36" Vert, 10'7" Broad Jump
33" arms, 10" hands, 79" wingspan
AAC Offensive POY & First Team All-AAC last two seasons
"Desmond Ridder possesses the arm talent to deliver the ball to anywhere on the field."
Strengths:
Loose & light-footed, Ridder moves calmly in the pocket.
Strong arm, tight spiral, and able to use multiple arm angles.
He likes to throw on the move and has good vision as a ball carrier.
Desmond got used to working through progressions in the Cincinnati offense.
1st-Team Academic All-American in 2021.
Ridder was a team captain last season.
43-6 career record.
Weaknesses:
He stares down targets and holds the ball too long at times.
Very inconsistent with accuracy; sails throws over receivers.
Ridder's placement makes things difficult for his receivers.
A longer delivery than we like to see from an NFL quarterback.
Ball security is an issue: 36 career fumbles.
Desmond Ridder could have some durability concerns if he doesn't add some bulk.
Drunk Thoughts
Desmond Ridder was a four-year starter in Cincinnati. He uses his athleticism well and possesses the arm talent to deliver the ball anywhere on the field. While Ridder needs to be more consistent with his accuracy and release, his physical ability, confidence, and experience should help carry him to a possible starting position in the NFL sooner than later. Currently expected as a 2nd round NFL Draft pick, I wouldn't be surprised to see a team grab him in the 1st.
