Our thoughts on 2022 NFL rookie running back Rachaad White.
Measurables:
6’0" 214 lbs.
4.48 40-yard dash
38” Vertical Jump
10’5” Broad Jump
"ASU staffers say the 6'0" 214-pound back gets better every day, easily hits 22 MPH on the GPS and also squats 500 pounds and power cleans 300."
Strengths:
White makes fast decisions, makes sharp cuts, and has excellent lateral agility.
He forces missed tackles with vision, quick feet, and accelerates after cuts.
His feet are constantly moving to help him peel off tackles.
Rachaad has above-average body control and receiving ability.
He had a first down or a touchdown on 44.2 percent of his 224 touches at ASU.
White scored in all but two games in 2021.
Covid-19 prevented him from rushing for 1000 yards in the last three years.
Receiving is undoubtedly his strength. He finished with a 98 percent target share, 48 targets in 2021, and finishing 3rd in yards per route run at an average of 2.24 yards.
Weaknesses:
Gets caught from behind due to ordinary long speed, and he doesn't look exceptionally fast on the field when watching highlights.
He can get inpatient at the line of scrimmage.
With average physicality and balance, his momentum is slowed due to contact.
White can be so focused on the man in front of him that he cuts into trouble.
He may not see the field quickly as his pass blocking isn't great, and he has limited special teams experience.
His receiving skills are well known, and he looks more like a wide receiver with lean-muscle definition throughout his frame.
Scouting Report
White will disappoint at times on the field, but he's an explosive runner with the lateral agility to create yardage. He projects as a good backup with the receiving chops to be an asset as a pass-catching back. Tom Brady likes to throw to his running backs, and a James White role might be perfect for Rachaad White. The Buccaneers seem to have committed to Leonard Fournette, but White could take some of the running back targets to ensure Fournette stays healthy.
