Our thoughts on 2022 NFL rookie tight end Trey McBride.

Measurables:

  • 6'3.5" 246 lbs.

  • 33” verticle and a 9’9” broad jump at the combine

  • 4.56 40-yard dash at his Pro Day

  • 99th percentile college dominator

"If you like Heath Miller or Kyle Rudolph, McBride is your guy."

Strengths:

  • Trey McBride holds the record for most points in basketball and the home run record.

  • Great catch concentration in traffic with sticky hands and is hard to take down.

  • His routes are crisp with quick acceleration, and he can find the void in zone defenses.

  • Trey moves through contact with ease and can stay on his route.

  • In 2021 he led his team while averaging 5.6 catches a game over the last three seasons.

  • Not only did he lead his team, but he led all FBS TEs with 90 rec, 1,121 yards in 2021.

  • He stepped up as a leader and was a 2-time team captain.

Weaknesses:

  • He leans into his routes and tips his hand to the defense.

  • McBride plays at one speed and struggles against twitchy rushers.

  • He doesn’t look powerful enough to stay in line as a blocker.

  • He committed eight penalties as a senior, including several holding calls. Blocking below the waist call caused a touchdown to be called back against Toledo.

  • Trey McBride registered only one touchdown in 2021 and finished college with ten total touchdowns.

Scouting Report

Fantasy team managers typically have to wait a few years for a tight end to break out; Tyler McBride is no different. McBride looks the part and figures to be a good NFL player. His athletic profile is comparable to Kyle Rudolph and Heath Miller, which feels accurate. A weekly stat line for him probably looks like four catches for 57 yards but leaves you hoping for a touchdown. McBride has an average draft position, just under number 24 overall. A late second or early third-round rookie pick feels right, but be prepared to hold him for three years before calling it quits.
