Our perspective on 2022 newcomer Treylon Burks.
Treylon Burks, a 6'2" 225 lb wide receiver out of Arkansas, ran a 4.55 40-yard dash, a 10'2" broad jump, a 33 inch vertical, and 8.88" hands.
"Burks looks much faster on the field than he tested."
Treylon Burks uses his big frame well to get the ball in close quarters, and defenders bounce off him at times. He initiates contact then outruns smaller defensive backs. Many people expected him to run somewhere in the 4.3s-range in the 40-yard dash, but maybe he didn't have a good breakfast that morning. Burks looks much faster on the field than he tested at the combine. Even 4.55 at that size is impressive, but his game speed is definitely better.
Burks didn't play as much on the outside (77% slot snaps) at Arkansas as we'd like, but one of the first highlights I saw when I started watching him for this profile was him catching a back-shoulder throw on the outside against Alabama. Burks can play wherever he is asked.
The only knocks I see on him are the lack of work on the outside, which isn't a big issue for me, and the sub-9" hand size. The hand size surprised me a bit, so I looked at productive wide receivers with 9 inches or less hands, and the list includes the following: Davante Adams, Antonio Brown, TY Hilton, Greg Jennings, & Mike Wallace. So any fears I had about his hands are very much gone. Somebody get this kid a glove sponsor right now.
Scouting Report
Currently going as the first rookie wide receiver off the board, according to MFL, Burks is already getting plenty of love. He posted a 92nd percentile College Dominator number and a 93rd percentile target share at Arkansas. He was also clocked at 22.6 MPH in a Week 3 game last season, which was one of the fastest in college football. Treylon is my #1 rookie WR, and I'd happily take him right behind Breece Hall in any format.
