Our thoughts on 2022 NFL rookie running back Isaiah Spiller.

Measurables:

  • 6'0" 217 lbs

  • 20.72 years old

  • 32" arms, 8 5/8" hands, 74" wingspan

  • Combine: 30" Vert, 9'6" Broad Jump, no other drills at the NFL Combine

  • Pro Day: 4.63 40-yd, 33" Vert, 4.27 Shuttle

  • Spiller had 63 rushes of 10+ yards, the most since 2020.

"Has all the tools to be a 3-down back in the NFL."

Strengths:

  • Spiller is a patient runner with good instincts.

  • Controlled feet and balance help him to shake defenders.

  • Good vision and decision-making help create yards.

  • Zero drops in '21 and regularly hauls in off-target throws.

  • Willing blocker with good strength.

  • Isaiah Spiller is durable; he didn't miss a single game over the past three seasons.

  • He is described as "smart" and "coachable" by the Texas A&M staff.

  • Consistent production, though not particularly remarkable.

Weaknesses:

  • Spiller plays no faster than his 40-yard dash time, often getting caught from behind.

  • At 6', he's a taller back and needs to work on pad level and forward lean.

  • Open field moves are nothing special.

  • Spiller is missing a top gear for long runs.

  • He needs to work on patience and angles in pass protection.

  • Only one fumble in 2021, but he fumbled six times in college.

  • Only accounted for 42.8% of A&M's carries in 2021.

  • Not a ton of snaps on special teams.

Scouting Report

Isaiah Spiller is an average athlete by NFL standards, but his ability as a receiver should keep him on an NFL roster for years. Spiller needs to be more consistent with his blocking and work on his pad level. Still, his excellent footwork, vision, durability, and patience give him the tools to develop into a 3-down workhorse at the next level. Currently projected as a 3rd or 4th round pick in the NFL Draft.
